Fixing Track

General Guidelines:

Materials:
The base material for the track ties/ballast is ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene). If planning to use a glue to fix the track to the layout base or other material, please select the appropriate adhesive.

The rails are soft iron and can be affected by water. Some cleaning alcohols have water mixed so they should not be used for cleaning. We recommend a dry cloth and then wipe over with the Energizer/Stabilizer Pen.

Elmer's Glue and perhaps other water based glue will affect the rails. Water based glues are not recommended.

Laying out turns:
T-Gauge tracks should be laid absolutely flat and need no banking at turns. In fact the two rails should be absolutely level, or trains may derail even on straight runs.

Flexible Track:

Some general information on Flexible track:

Flexible track is just track & ties, but no ballast, as in the design of the straight tracks or curved tracks. It is definitely more delicate, than other items by T-Gauge.

Since the track is just ties with rails on top, it would require the modeller to design a ramp to raise and support it and to align with the standard T-Gauge track. Flex track is lighter and does not have a strong a structure, and may not be able to bear the weight of the rolling stock over the short gradient up to the rigid tracks, without a proper supporting ramp.

Adapting Flex Track to Rigid Basic Track:

The pictures below are self explanatory. The Item R-027 pack comes with adapting Joiners to enable plugging in the flex track into the rigid tracks. It is advisable to screw the flex track to avoid lateral movement thus assuring a smooth transition.

Maintenance:

T-Gauge recommends that a No. 2000 sandpaper be used very lightly, to smoothen the tracks. They have seen noticeable improvement in the running of trains after using the sandpaper. So a quick cleanup with the sandpaper once in a while is recommended. T-Gauge, starting from the Road Crossing Track pack, Item R-026, has started including a small piece of No. 2000 sandpaper in its track packs.

The bottom of the turnout is protected by a PCB which also is a mounting base for the magnets.

T-Gauge Turnout Tabs

The tabs for operating the manual turnouts are clearly visible in this close-up.

Once pushed they are assisted by two permanent magnets (one for each direction) which keep the rails in position. The tab-slider has an upward lip for a better grip. For those interested in mechanizing this process, creative solutions may be required.

Gradient:

Maximum K.K. Eishindo's recommended gradient for tracks is 6%.
