    T-Gauge Repairs

    Recent Repairs/Services Performed:

Diagnostics and repairs for Greg C (Illinois) - Aug. '09.

    Problem/Complaint:
Customer was experiencing jerky motion, and sometimes, the unmotorized car would lose traction and start "freewheeling".

    Solution Provided:
We (TRAINAIDSA) oiled the wheels using "T-Gauge Stabilizer Oil" Soon to be available at TRAINAIDSA as an applicator pen.. This increases the conductivity between the wheels and the rails. It also lubricates the wheels. Secondly, we replaced one of the couplers of one car, which had become bent, causing one of the cars to be "levered" upwards, resulting in loss of traction.

Diagnostics and repairs for Bob M (Connecticut) - Nov. '09.

    Problem/Complaint:
Customer said . . . "It starts with a jump, won't run slowly, runs better in one direction than the other, and seems more noisy than T trains I've seen at shows. Also, the wheel cleaner does not seem to work: Shouldn't the loco run when the wheels are held to the magnet?"

    Solution Provided:
It seems that there was some dust and fibres in the unit. Any such thing affects conductivity internally, as well as the wheel rotation. We suggest keeping the layout covered and cleaning the tracks regularly with a dry material that does not release leave fibres.

Once the fiber/dust is inside, the wheel cleaner will not work effectively.
As for the question on wheels running on contact, both the front trucks/bogies and the rear should touch correctly to enable the circuit to be completed. We hope that the performance will now be to your satisfaction.

Customer Comment: "I am totally unused to such superior service and care! OK, indeed!"

Please inform us when you no longer need the information displayed here, as we "may" prefer to remove information on your task and update the page from time to time.

We suggest a brief visit to our sub-Sections on T-Gauge Support regularly.

    Important Notes:
Jerky motion can be caused by either the wheels not sitting properly on the tracks, it may be worthwhile to check using a magnifying glass. Repeated use in this fashion also makes the wheels wear out irregularly.

The tracks and the miniature motor may have fibers or dust that can also affect the performance.

TrainAidsA stocks the "Energizing & Stabilizing Pen", a T-Gauge product that should be used to improve performance. The Oil that this Pen uses is also available in liquid form. Please visit our "T-Gauge Shop".
