How-To-Guide: NEM+

Adarsh Narayan

For this conversion, I used Ribu's Kit # 504 that comes with all components to assemble an arm with an NEM pocket. It also allows height adjustment of the pocket using spacers, during the assembly. This is a great advantage. In one of my freight car conversions, I have adjusted the height differently at either end of the car allowing me to create a transition car as couplers in the cars connected at either end are not at the same level. This "transitional" car with coupler shafts at different heights, helps alleviate that problem.

Ribu-Rietze's range of products, available in our on-line Shop, also includes kits that are suitable for Freight cars.

Click the base pieces together with the post element inserted. Center the piece and adjust the distance from the end of the car based on your needs. Make sure that the post is freely turning inside the sealed base plate assembly prior to sealing and gluing.

Then glue the complete assembly to the base of the car, applying glue only to the surfaces in contact. If any glue seeps into the gap between the two plastic surfaces creating the enclosure for the base of the post, the post will not rotate freely.

Using washers/spacers included, adjust the height of the coupler pocket while you thread it on to the post. Once the correct height is achieved, drop a little glue in between these. The pocket is pressed together with the spacer(s) in between and held together till dry.

Tips:
Remove and file off all sprues from each of the pieces before starting assembly.

Check the height required etc. before glueing. If you need more or no spacers, this is the time to decide that.
