    About our LEDs
    Our LEDs A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is today's preferred illumination technology. LEDs consume less power, do not heat up and produce a stronger light while lasting much longer.

    Most of our products are Plug-n-Play with the resistor integrated into the assembly. The individual C5 and SMD LEDs need voltage & current control. C5 packages include resistors for use with 9-19v DC.

    For conversion from incandescent lamps/bulbs, we have introduced a variety of LEDs. E5 & C5 are designed to replace older bulbs. The Strips, which are also Plug-n-Play, use SMD type LEDs, C5, E5, W5, W3's are glass dome type. Dome types produce a narrow directional forward illumination. SMD's produce a wider angle of illumination.
    For AC & DCC
    For AC & DCC: To use our strips with AC power as in Märklin, or in situations where you would like them to light up in forward and backward movement (positive/negative polarity change), the best way is to feed power via a rectifier to neutralize the flickering or polarity change.

    We suggest ACW (see below) a wire connector for strips, which has a built-in mini rectifier. OR ACCW (see below) a wire connector for strips (or other LEDs), which has a built-in mini rectifier AND a capacitor to avoid flickering when the train passes over a gap or power is interrupted for some reason.
     
    You may add a mini rectifier that can also be ordered via our Elektrizmos section.
    Polarity
    LED Polarity is Important LEDs are polarity sensitive, except those for Lionel which include a rectifier to allow them to work in forward and reverse travel and also with AC such as in Märklin.

    Wires presoldered with our LEDs, connectors etc., such as W3 or W5, follow this standard rule:
    Black wire is Negative ( - ) and  Colored wire is Positive (+ ).
     
    Lionel Users: Please see items  E5, E10, L2S, L1T & L3. Most of these LEDs have Rectfiers built into them for working with either polarity.

    White/Warm White ?
    A White LED is more bluish in color and looks like the flourescent tube light or the headlamps in new cars. The light temperature is 5,000° K.

    The Warm-White or also called Golden White emits light that is more like the traditional incandescent bulb and emits light at 3,000° K.

    C5 - Cartridge Base

    Normal Polarity: Center Bottom Terminal Positive & Casing Negative. For opposite polarity, see next item CR5 below.

    Use as replacement in Locomotives, Turnouts, Vehicles, Trackside Accessories & other locations. 5mm dia. LEDs, without built in resistor. Similar mount as Marklin 600100 (5mm dia. base). Resistors supplied with LEDs and included in price.

    Normal use with 3-3.5v DC, and with upto 19v with resistor supplied.

    		Note: Both C5 and CR5 should be used where the bulb cannot be replaced with LEDs in other shapes and solutions. LEDs are polarity sensitive, so in many cases, the wiring in older locomotives or cars is not suitable for a simple direct replacement.

    Provides full strength illumination at 5-6v. Lower intensity at 3-4.9v. For 6v to 19v, we suggest using S12 strips.

    SMD Lighting Strip for passenger cars. Plug-n-Play for use with 6v-19v DC and will work without any additional circuitry.

    Used as is, in Marklin AC, and by our customers with DC/DCC as well. However, many prefer to use with ACW (see below). Our wire connector that has a built in mini-rectifier. That converts the power to DC. Connect two strips for longer passenger cars. Connect more for other uses such as background lighting, long stretches as platform lighting or illumination undel the layout table.
    Strips can also be cut in half for adjustment to total length required or for shorter lengths for example for a Caboose/Guard Van. Half the strip (5cm/2 in.) will work just as normally as a complete one. Visit our Gallery section for ideas.

    S50 - SMD LED 50cm. Long Lighting Strip
    Same as S12, but Long Length SMD Lighting Strip.

    Has different connectors. Cuttable & Plug-n-Play designed for use with 12v DC and will work without any additional circuitry. Works with voltages from 9v to 18v. Lower than 12v will deliver lower intensity of illumination upto a certain point. It is preferable to reduce current for voltages higher than 12v. Use these to light station platforms, inside buildings etc. Cut pieces will operate as independent Plug-n-Play strips.
