Making an LED to light up like a Bulb

Hans Nouwens working on LEDs for the layout at  Railz MiniWorld explains his solution.
"Using a small piece of sanding paper, sand down the LED's round top
(not too much!) and rough up the rest. This will make the beam into a surround light."

The following three pictures from Hans Nouwens, show the change brought about by this solution. This process has been used to convert LEDs to emit light very close to a bulb, on a large scale at RailzMiniWorld.

So we decided to try it with our W3 LEDs.

It worked!!!

This is what we got:
In the first picture, a normal dome type LED is on the left. On the right side is the same with the top and sides sanded a bit, as suggested above.
A W3 LED on Left and a sanded one on the right. Lighted W3 LED on Left and a Lighted sanded one on the right.

This is a quick way to make one when urgently needed. We now have "Milky" LEDs available in our SHOP. Please see them in our LED section.
